Seghill Rugby Club

everything rugby

The introduction of Rugby at Seghill began in 1921, during the coal stoppage.
One pair of posts, some balls and stenuous games are the early memories of the club.
Fifteen men decided they would like to try their skills against other players, and Northumberland Rugby Union accepted Seghill as Junior Members.
So, in September 1921, Seghill took to the field at the Grammar School in Jesmond, to face Old Novocastrians Third XV.
Seghill Won!!!!!!!
The players that day were: Stanley, Mitchell, Atkinson, Evans, Scott, Foggett, Polwarth, Aldis, Archbold, Morris, Emmerson, Poynton, Tully, Martin and Wilkinson.
The rest is history.
